Rolling the DICE on Data?

What if we saw our companies as data or technology companies that provided services or products? What would those businesses look like? In this session Liam talks through NGN’s journey to put data at the heart of everything it does and how the Digitalisation Strategy helps shape the future in the organisation, to become a technology and data management company that delivers a world-class gas distribution service. The session will delve into the challenges and opportunities this journey brought, how fundamental Data Management principles and activities played a vital role in its success and how the inception of the Data & Information Centre of Excellence was born, how it grew and evolved; drawing in new technologies, new ways of thinking, and new learnings from hard-won experience. The session will look into the ‘what next’, the opportunities of Open Data, smarter networks and how geospatial applications will form a large part of the next phase.

A systems Thinking Approach

NWG will share the increasing importance of systems thinking and data sharing in the sector. This will be brought to life with real life examples of innovations that have resulted from working in this way and we’ll show how we are leading the way in the water sector.

In a whirlwind tour of the innovation festival we’ll draw out why a 4 pronged approach is applied, where we think the industry is heading and how NWG are instrumental in making this happen.

Data is key to every utility; however, its true value is only realised through its analysis and manipulation. Raw data, whilst of high value, doesn’t allow its owners to fully maximise the returns they gain from it. Tom will showcase why the automation of good data governance is critical for the safer, smarter and more sustainable future of digital utilities and how through the use 1Spatial products, 1Spatial have developed targeted solutions that address specific digital data needs across the utilities industry. Global industry problems including Leakage, Asset Inference, Automating Schematic diagram production, Automating Traffic Management Plan Production and getting your utility ready for the ESRI Utility Network Model Migration.
