Dr Stephen Unger is a Commissioner at the Geospatial Data Commission. He has just taken on responsibility for chairing a new Transport Location Data Taskforce, which will bring together businesses interested in exploiting location data with key public sector organisations
He was until recently a Board member of Ofcom, the UK regulator responsible for digital communications. He had various responsibilities, including setting regulatory strategy for the UK, representing the UK internationally, and leading Ofcom’s technology programme. For a period he was Acting Chief Executive.
Before becoming a regulator Steve spent several years in the private sector. He worked for a variety of high-tech start-ups who were developing and exploiting new wireless technologies.
He now has a variety of roles, working as a non-executive board member, consultant, and academic. A common theme across this portfolio is an interest in how markets exploit disruptive technologies, and how public policy can maximise the resulting benefits.
